Clun Forest Sheep are a very old breed of sheep that originated in the Clun Valley region of Shropshire, England in the 1800s. Early emphasis on the breed was for a hardy, prolific sheep that could survive on grass and whatever else they could forage.

In terms of appearance, Clun Forest are a naturally polled sheep, with an open face ranging in color from tan to black.  The legs should be free from wool and are also tan to black in color.  While grey or speckled lambs are common, the body and fleece of the mature Clun Forest are white.  The natural creamy color provides a nice natural look, but the wool also takes dye beautifully.

Clun Forest Fiber

Clun Forest fiber is considered a medium wool of the Down type. The staple length, elasticity of the wool, and the inability to wet felt the wool makes Clun Forest ideally suited to both the beginner and expert spinner or knitter alike.

The staple length makes it easy to spin, and the elasticity makes it an ideal knitting or crocheting yarn.   As a result, Clun yarn produces beautiful knitted products such as socks, mittens, gloves, scarves and sweaters.

Stock For Sale

Due to a number of factors, including ongoing drought, rising feed and processing costs, and other factors, we have made the extremely difficult decision to disperse our flock of registered Clun Forest sheep by the end of this year (2024).

To everyone who purchased breeding stock from us this year, we say THANK YOU! Our flock has been dispersed and we no longer have any stock for sale.
